Peke Waihanga is a leading New Zealand healthcare provider, delivering specialist services in prosthetics, orthotics, and rehabilitation. Our vision is “independent lives for the people we care for”. With nationwide services and a commitment to wrap-around support, we empower people to regain mobility, confidence, and independence.
Peke Waihanga has made a commitment to provide financial and professional support for up to two current health professionals or recent graduates in health sciences (or similar) per year, who are motivated to develop their career in this challenging and rewarding industry.
This year we are seeking applicants who have an interest in developing a career with a focus on orthotics or working towards a dual scope of practice (orthotics and prosthetics).
Job Description
The Opportunity
Successful applicants will be employed initially as technicians, where you will learn how to fabricate, maintain and repair quality orthotic and prosthetic devices for patients. This introduction to the organisation will take place in our Auckland centre and will enable you to gain an all-round understanding of what a Clinical Orthotist/Prosthetist does and give you the insights to decide whether you would like to pursue a career in orthotics and prosthetics.
If you decide you would like to continue along this path of professional development, Peke Waihanga will provide financial support for you to gain a bachelor’s degree in prosthetics and orthotics, at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Brisbane (this qualification is not available in NZ).
Following graduation, you will be employed by Peke Waihanga as a Clinical Orthotist, where you will prescribe and maintain orthotic devices, enable patients to live independent and productive lives, and have a key role in ensuring we deliver a world class service to all patients.
